Mini Space v0.8.0
Mini Space is a spiritual sequel to my PICO-8 shmup Space 8, rebuilt from the ground up in Godot with expanded mechanics and improved visuals. If you want to see where this game is headed, I highly recommend playing Space 8 first - it's a complete experience that shows the core loop I'm building toward.
What's Here:
- Classic vertical scrolling shoot-em-up gameplay
- Multiple obstacle types: asteroids (3 sizes and 3 materials), comets (in 4 colors), and deadly black holes with gravity physics
- Mission-based progression with increasing difficulty
- Cumulative scoring and credit system
- Station hub between missions
- Dynamic difficulty scaling across rounds
What's Missing (But Coming!): This is an incomplete submission - I vastly underestimated the work required to rebuild Space 8 with more robust systems. The planned shop and powerup system isn't implemented yet, which would have made the "overpowered" theme much clearer. I'm continuing development post-jam and would love feedback on what's here!
This is my second game jam (first was PVGD Pico Jam 2025 where I made Space 8). The goal was to address feedback from that first game while working in a less constrained engine. Scope creep got me again, but I'm grateful for the jam pressure to get this started!
